Le Voile Interposé

2022, Rencontres d’Arles

Curation and Production with Fisheye Immersive and Benoit Baume

The exhibition Le Voile Interposé (The Interposed Veil) challenges our ability to distinguish the reality from the virtual. The title refers to a phrase by François-René de Chateaubriand: "Time is a veil interposed between us and God, like our eyelid between our eye and the light." It also alludes to the writings of William Burroughs, particularly "Naked Lunch," in which these same boundaries are blurred through the use of alcohol and psychoactive chemicals. Presenting new works by Joan Fontcuberta, the Obvious collective, and the duo Pussykrew, "The Interposed Veil" prompts us to consider what the evolution of immersive technologies promises and what we truly desire from it.
